Have A Safe Halloween!

HalloweenWith trick-or-treaters roaming the streets on Halloween, it’s important for drivers to pay even closer attention to what’s going on around them.

In residential areas, be on the lookout for children darting out into the middle of the street and yield to young pedestrians as they may not understand the dangers of traffic or simply don’t see your vehicle. Drive slowly and be careful when passing stopped vehicles as the driver may be dropping off children. Also, maintain clear communication with other drivers by ensuring to use your turn signals and turn on your hazard lights when pulling over to drop off or pick up your kids.

Keep your own children out of harm’s way on Halloween by teaching them how to safely cross the road at stop signs and lights, and by taking them trick-or-treating yourself, depending on their age. Providing your kids with flashlights and glow sticks, and/or putting reflective tape on their costumes is also an awesome idea as it makes it easier for drivers to see them. Indoor community Halloween programs for younger kids are a good option too, such as trick-or-treating at West Edmonton Mall.

If you are going out to a Halloween party/event and will be drinking, make sure to plan a safe way to get home at the end of the night, before the festivities begin. Have a designated driver, take a taxi or use public transportation.

From all of us here at Gateway Toyota Scion, have a safe and happy Halloween!
