Gateway Toyota: Toyota Canada and the Environment

Toyota has long been committed the sustainability and well-being of people and the environment. Their commitment to meeting the growing wants and needs of the transportation industry; while still protecting the Earth is a top priority. Toyota looks closely at its products, strategies for its business, and how each day runs while ensuring there is room for improvement with the environment.

Toyota started an Earth Charter and Global vision in 2010. This charter was put in place to ensure the protection of the environment and communities. This would ensure the use of resources and energy while manufacturing was kept to a minimum and something was given back to the earth. The center of this charter is a combination of 2 things, “Kaizen” and responsible environmental stewardship. “Kaizen” is Toyota’s philosophy of continuous improvement. These 2 things allow Toyota to look ahead at its vision with pride and know that they can help guarantee Canadian advancement both now, and in the future.

Toyota created and initiative called “LEED” standing for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.  It is an internationally known green building certification system. Much like other cars have helped change its industry, LEED allows us to change the construction industry. It allows owners and builders to have a voice in the environmental construction of their buildings.  They are able to do this with close attention to five top areas. These areas are sustainable site development, water efficiency, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.

The first Canadian indication of LEED progress was a Toyota dealership in Stratford, Ontario. This dealership became the first LEED certified Toyota dealership in Canada, as well as the first dealership to achieve a gold standard (one of the highest levels of LEED certification) within Canada. With Toyota’s dedication to the environment and its loyal customers, it is clear Toyota is in it for the long haul.  These tools enable you to trust Toyota with your vehicles and with your environment.
